Design et al Award

October 15, 2018

The 2018 Design Et Al Awards winners were recently announced, and we are delighted to have been involved in the design and installation of one the winners!

Picking up the award in the “Regeneration/Restoration” category was our Lancaster Barn project, a beautiful listed barn conversion in Norfolk. Here’s what the judges had to say about the property:

“This project involved a Listed barn conversion of an almost derelict barn in a rural village location in North Norfolk. The brief given to London Design Group was to create a state of the art barn with on-trend fittings but still in keeping with the traditions of the barn and rural environment. The barn is situated in a rural village location overlooking farm land to the rear. Original features were to be maintained, materials were to be recycled as much as possible and local craftsmen were to be used wherever possible. The property was to be used as a family holiday home and also as high-end holiday rental accommodation therefore practical maintenance was also a consideration.

The property had to include a large family kitchen and breakfast room, a minimum of four bedrooms; including a downstairs accessible bedroom and bathroom to accommodate elderly guests. The dining area was to allow for formal dining to accomodate 10/12 people. The living areas were designed to feel relaxing, calm, and naturally elegant with plenty of storage space. One of London Design Group’s favourite aspects of the project include the reception area, which has a magnificent “cathedral height” ceiling, exposing the beautifully preserved beams from the original barn, a fantastic central wood-burning stove with long chrome flue and a sweeping bespoke oak staircase which branches off in two directions to separate bedroom suites.

The barn sits well in the village location looking unassuming from the entrance and opening up to the rear overlooking farm land. The garden design and use of original materials ensures the barn sits naturally in the environment. The natural part of the garden ensures local wild life has been maintained and London Design Group have incorporated owl boxes in the roof to ensure the resident owls are well accommodated! The barn is used privately by the owners as well as hired out for high end holiday retreats. It has a wonderful sense of light and space from vaulted ceilings with exposed beams in the main living area. It has been cleverly designed to create plenty of space to relax in comfort with the family. London Design Group not only fulfilled the brief set by the client but exceeded their expectations. The design has also been a success with the high-end luxury holiday rental market.”
